There's No Place Like Home

We've been traveling for the last week, visiting family, seeing new places, and today is the last day of the trip. We've seen a lot of beautiful places; temperate rainforest, mountain glaciers, coastal cliffs, ocean breakers, expansive orchards and vineyards, and beautiful verdant rolling farms tucked in amidst deep green douglass fir forest. All of it almost painfully beautiful. But as much as I've enjoyed the various sights, sounds, and smells of the trip, my homing instinct is stronger. We launch the last leg of the drive today - barring any problems, we'll be home before dark. Home to my little 1/4 acre of parched grass and half-planted vegetable patch. Home to my wonderful soft comfy bed. Home to my four silly chickens and the beautiful cat with anger issues. Home to fruit trees that need spraying, weeds that need pulling, and wasp nests under the picnic table. Home to neighbor kids knocking on the door, dirty laundry, flies in the kitchen, bills, tracked in dirt, and dishes in the sink.

I can't wait.

  1. Yes Lisa, it is so good to get back home. I hope you rash/hives are better. I monitor your words, and some time say nothing, but I always worry and pray over you and yours. I love you and yours. Call we when you get home.

PS. I will have a good crop of those early transparent apples, but they are wormy. If you want them, I will pick them and bring them down to you. I am itchy for a short trip. Megan's baptism will we too late for the apples.

  2. I can't wait either. Not just for your company again but so I don't have to move that stupid chicken coop one more time.

  3. If you have a half-planted vegetable patch then you have 50% more than I do. It's a goal - but you can keep the chickens. ;)

  5. Dukdub, I don't think the chickens are too bright but my main problem is the coop its self. I have to drag that thing to a new spot in the yard every day and it is HEAVY!!! I won't miss that.

  7. UGH I HATE DRIVING FOR 18 HOURS TO GET HOME! It's the lamest. I got pretty sick to my stomach and not even from driving on the way home. Good thing we had our swedish fish bag just in case I needed to throw up haha. Lucky for me I didn't though.

  8. Plus also Mom you forgot about my snake AGAIN! Just kidding, it's okay. Except for the time on our trip when dad prayed for all of the other animals on our "farm" and left Reggie out of it! that wasn't fair. Plus also Amidey, thanks for letting us play that joke on you about the snake. It was pretty funny.

  9. Many many thanks to Amidey for feeding my cat and chickens and for moving the stupid coop every day. I'm thinking maybe it was good for you and maybe put some muscle on those skinny arms, eh? Seriously, though, many thanks. I'm trying to think of some really sneaky way to get even. No good deed goes unpunished, you know.

  10. Susan I forget about your snake because you do such a fabulous job of caring for her that I never have to even think of her. I'm not responsible for her. Please forgive me for leaving her out of the prayers and blog.
