I'd do it all over again

Eighteen years ago today, I married my soulmate. It is without a doubt the best decision I ever made.

Here's a picture of us on our wedding day.

We were pretty hot, dontcha think? Of course, most people are at the ripe old age of 21. Ahem.

And it's a very good thing we were so hot. Because we got married in the Idaho Falls Temple. The Idaho Falls Temple is in Idaho. Idaho in December is a very cold place. And on the day we got married, Idaho was the coldest place Idaho had been in 35 years. The high temperature that day was -12 degrees Farenheit. I know! I am shivering just remembering. I have never been so cold in my life as I was driving to Idaho Falls early that morning, wearing a knee length dress, nylons, and black pumps.

Here we are out in the minus 12 degree sunshine to take a picture to prove we got married in the I.F. Temple. We had to hold our breath so there wouldn't be white clouds of steam in front of our faces.
No one else in the wedding party would even come outside for the picture! So it was just the photographer (thanks dad!), my handsome groom, and me. Family loyalty runs shallow in Idaho in December.

But because we were hot, so we didn't mind. Funny what dizzying happiness does to a person's senses, isn't it?

  2. Yes family loyalty does run shallow in Idaho when it is -12. And hey I resemble that remark. I said it before and I'll say it again, my brother is one lucky dude to have found you. Thanks for being such a great SIL through thick and think, I have loved the last 18 years.

  8. HOTHOTHOT!! My parents were sealed in the IF templs (back in the day when you got married civilly first so that you could travel unchaperoned to the temple to your sealing--heaven forbid your parents should be there for that--too expensive for everyone to go!) and I daresay it was warm enough for the waterfall to actually flow when they got married.

  11. Oh, It is very funny I was telling my kids about that day, in response to their pleas to just leave the pop in the car. I will never foget how it exploded all over the van.

Congrats on your cold and wonderful day. I'm so glad that you joined the family.

  12. At night it was lower than -30 for a week. I had family cars that wouldn't start, and I spent lots of time thawing things out.

That evening squelched the reception, it was so cold. I'm sure more would have come if it had been warmer. But, hey, it's something that we will never forget!

Then when we went to Washington for the after honeymoon reception, they/we had a record snow storm! Lisa, you and Tom were so special, nature tried to thwart. But we were thwart thwarters. Hee Hee.

  14. Great post! I am ever so glad that you joined our family too. You have been a great blessing not only to Tom, but to all of us.

And you know, you do look hot!!! There must some law of physics that I missed in school, looking that hot when the surrounding temperature is so low.

That was the dang coldest trip we ever took. Kris is right. I remember the soda exploding in the back of the van and the shaving lotion which is almost all alchol freezing solid. The plastic handle of my temple bag just shattered when we tried to lift it out of the car. But it was worth it. Beautiful bride. Handsome groom. Beautiful temple. Beautiful start to a wonderful marriage. The stuff eternal dreams are made of!

  17. any temperature that starts with the - sign is not acceptable... HOWEVER! For a sister/cousin/aunt/friend/whatever - you gotta at least tolerate it for a minute or two!!!

    Looking good girl!
